Abstract
The theory of comparative advantage is reviewed in this article. According to this theory the basis of competitive products in the international market is the relative value of industry costs in different countries.
Balassa index is described as one of the best known method for detecting of comparative advantages for the country. Balassa index is calculated for the poultry products and substitute products of poultry meat such as beef and pork. Balassa index is analyzed for the major livestock industries between the years 2000–2013. It is showed that poultry products are competitive in the international market. Other animal products such as beef and pork do not have a comparative advantage and therefore are not competitive in the international market. Some proposals are made relatively to strengthening of competitive position of the poultry in the domestic and foreign markets.
Conclusions and recommendations that are grounded in scientific article may promote the competitiveness of poultry industry in the international market.
