Author Guidelines

General information

Scientific Messenger of Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology publishes results of research on areas: biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, cell biology, endocrinology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, physiology, neuroscience, pharmacology, toxicology  Focus and Scope more detailed.

Articles submitted to Scientific Messenger of Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology journal should be original and unpublished contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. Manuscript should be written in Ukrainian, Russian or English. Responsibility for the contents of the paper rests upon the authors and not upon the editors or the publisher. Authors of submitted papers should familiarize themselves with copyright transfer to Scientific Messenger of Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology journal, Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of NAS of Ukraine.

The papers have to be prepared according to the ethical standards in publishing.

The review process

Reviewing (expert evaluation) of manuscripts of scientific articles is carried out to maintain a high scientific and theoretical level of the journal and to select the most valuable and relevant scientific papers.  Scientific Messenger of Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology journal uses Double-Blind Peer Review. The review process is free of charge. More details on the review process.

The journal does not accept any forms of plagiarism and has its own special criteria for its identification. The journal uses software to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts: Detector Plagiarist, Antiplagiat, eTXT. Manuscripts in which plagiarism or textual borrowings are found without reference to the original source are rejected by the editorial board for publication in the journal. More details on Journal's Plagiarism policy.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

It is free to submit a manuscript to "Scientific messenger of Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies named after S.Z. Gzhytskyj", while a charge of 50-hrivna (50 UAH) for each print page and no charge for the colour figures will be assessed on accepted manuscripts (The minimum cost per article having 10 pages is 500 UAH,  the maximum cost per article having 20 pages is 1000 UAH). The publication fee for the invited papers will be waived. If authors have a financial problem to support the publication, requests for waiver of charges can be submitted to bvh@ukr.net

Submission of papers

Paper submission is free of charge. A submission must include the corresponding author's complete name, affiliation, address, phone and fax numbers, ORCID and e-mail address. All papers for consideration by Scientific Messenger of Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology should be submitted by e-mail to the journal Executive Editor:

Manuscript preparation

Please submit your manuscript as one file only by e-mail to brigad@ua.fm.
You may use this file as a template to prepare your submission file. It will quicken publication of your submission.

Abstract should have 1900–2100 characters. The abstract should be informative and full of substance. Please do not use any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references. The abstract should be understandable without reading the paper.

Keywords: 4−6 items.

Research papers should not exceed 40 printed pages. Please use MS Word (*.doc).

Use internationally accepted signs and symbols (SI units).

Title should inform about the content of the paper in a condensed form. The title should not exceed 13 words. A full research paper should have following components:

  • Title
  • Name(s) of the author(s)
  • The address(es) and affiliations of the author(s)
  • The e-mail address, full telephone and fax no. of the corresponding author
  • Abstract
  • Key words (indexing terms), normally 4–6 items
  • Introduction
  • Material and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgements



Review paper may have any number of sections of any names. Only Conclusion is obligatory.

Cite references in the text by name and year in parentheses. Please use the following reference style in the text: one author – (Vinson, 2015), 2 authors – (Vargo and Laurel, 2004; Vargo and Hulsey, 2014), 3 and more authors – (Davis et al., 2006; Jones et al., 2016).


Please use the table function, not spreadsheets, to design tables. Tables should be self-explanatory. Tables are placed in the text just after its first reference. They should be mentioned and numbered consecutively (e.g. Table 1). Please provide an informative title at the top of the table.

Each column should carry a brief heading. Tables will be reproduced in the journal as presented in the final submission. Please do not insert huge tables, which cannot be fit within the page margins. Details of statistics and description should be disposed beneath the table body as a footnote. Use asterisks for significance values and other statistical data.


All figures should be referred in the text and numbered consecutively. Use Times New Roman font in the figures.

Caption must appear beneath the figure and should make the figure sufficiently understandable apart from the text. Lettering and symbols should be explained in the caption and only exceptionally in the figure. Figures should be of good quality. Colour figures will appear in the downloadable files. Figures should be fit to the text area and embedded.


The list of references should only include published or accepted works that are cited in the text. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text.

Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each publication.

The names of all authors should be provided. Please use the standard of APA – American Psychological Association (www.crossref.org)

You may use papers published in the last issue as an example.

At the end of the references of the manuscript author must specify his/her ORCID ID number (for each of the authors ORCID personal number needed) to allow the readers of this article refer to authors' publications in other journals. The creation of ORCID (if you do not have it yet) will take a few minutes (the official website - www.orcid.org).
