Abstract

The data is represented about the ethological individuality of animals of Znamianskyi type of the south breed (the 1st control group genotype A5/8Ch1/4S1/8, 2nd research group – CH5/8A1/4RS1/82, 3research group – Ch7/16A7/16RS1/16S1/163, where A is Aberdeen Angus, Ch – Charolais, S – Simmental, RS - Red Steppe).

The hierarchy formation at the pasture field was lasting for a short period of time with the dominance of animals of the 2nd group. Being kept confined, the animals of the 2nd group conflicted with the cows of the 3group during the first and second attendance and only during the third it was noticeable that the hierarchic structure is completely established in the stock.

Being kept confined, the animals showed the lowest level of motor activity (824,4–854,1 minutes a day) in comparison with the animals at the pasture field (851,6-872,2 minutes a day). Animals of all genotypes at the pasture field needed more time for sleeping, feed and water intaking.

The cows of all groups have excellent reproducible qualities, and analysis of dam characters showed that after the calving the cows actively lick their calves during 35-36 minutes. A calf rises to feet during an hour and immediately shows the sucking reflex. A calf suckles the mother on the average eight times a day during the first month after the birth. The longest duration of act of suckling has the 1st group – 3,82 minutes, the shortest has the 2nd group – 3,55 minutes.

It is proved that the animals of Znamianskyi type of the south breed have good adaptative qualities that favor its active usage for production of outputs both at stall and pasturable systems of keeping. They have quite high functional activity, actively move, feed, look well after descendants, and also almost don't conflict among themselves. Thus, the type correcting towards the increase in a share of inheritance of Charolais breed and reduction of Aberdeen – Angus didn't reveal distinctions between genotypes according to the ethological signs.
