In conducting research, commonly used methods of epizootic study, statistical analysis. Analyzing the epizootic situation with ASF in Zhytomyr region for 2015–2017, it should be noted that among other regions, the number of ASF incident is lower than in Zhytomyr only in Ivano-Frankivsk – 3, and in L’viv – 1 case, in Dnipropetrovsk the same number as in Zhytomyr – 4 cases. In all other regions, the number of ASF incident is greater than in Zhytomyr. When considering the geographical position of Zhytomyr region, we have identified a number of criteria that may promote the spread of ASF. The following risks should be taken into account. The border accommodation of the region – in the north Zhytomyr region borders on the Republic of Belarus. Although there are few cases of ASF in Belarus officially registered (2 in 2013), worryingly that the countries bordering Belarus are unfavorable to ASF and have registered significantly more cases of this disease. Here, from our point of view, there can be two opinions: either in Belarus conducting measures to eliminate ASF are really effective, or new cases simply are not covered. The latter option is more likely if you analyze the Internet resources and see a map-diagram of ASF incident in Western Europe. Therefore, the risks here can be quite high. According to official data the wild boar depopulation in Belarus may in turn lead to the migration of wild pigs to the territory of Ukraine. The northern part of the Zhytomyr region is located in the forest area, which is a natural habitat for wild boar populations, which can be the carrier of ASF. Particularly disturbing is the fact that in the north of the Rivne region, there have been many cases of ASF, where forest areas also predominate. There is, therefore, a risk of wild boar with ASF virus entering from the Rivne region to the Zhytomyr. Zhytomyr region borders on areas in which the epizootic situation regarding the ASF is much more intense. In the Kyiv region, 15 cases of ASF were registered, in Vinnitsa – 9, in Khmelnyts’ky – 6, in Rivne – 21. Zhytomyr region occupies a central position, through its territory there are many auto and railway routes of international importance, which go to the capital of Ukraine. Thus, the region has close economic ties with other regions. If we take into account all of the abovementioned risks in the Zhytomyr region, we can say that the situation is sufficiently controlled. If on the territory of Ukraine on January 20, 2005 there were registered 323 ASF incidents, then in Zhytomyr oblast – 4. Analyzing the spread of ASF in Zhytomyr region on the fact of registration of dysfunctional points in 2015–2017, it can be assumed that the disease spread to Zhytomyr region with wild pigs from the eastern direction, from the Kyiv region (cases in the Radomyshl and Malyn districts). In all cases, measures were taken to contain ASF in accordance with the instruction, the effectiveness of which is confirmed by the subsequent prosperity of the area. ER -
