Halyna Kotsyumbas was born on December 24, 1952 in Lviv. She spent his childhood in the village of Shalanky in Vynohradiv district of Zakarpattya region, where her father worked as a forest manager. In 1962 she moved with her family to Lviv and continued her studies at Secondary School № 28. After graduating from secondary school, during 1970-1975 she has been studying at the Veterinary Faculty of Lviv Zoo-Veterinary Institute, took part in the research circle of the department of pathological anatomy, and participated in amateur art, was a soloist of the Dance group of "Pidhirya” ensemble. In 1975 she obtained a diploma with honors in the field of veterinary science. For her outstanding performance and active participation in public life of the Institute, she was recommended for postgraduate studies and further work at the Institute. In 1975 she was taken on in the position of a senior laboratory assistant of the Laboratory of Pathozymology at the Department of Biochemistry, from which she was promoted to the same post at the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Histology in 1977. Since February 1978 she has been working at the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Histology: first as an assistant lecturer, from 1991 a senior lecturer, from 1997 an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer of Pathological Anatomy course, in 2008 she has become a Professor of the same Department, and in 2009 - Head of the Department. In 2012, due to optimization processes, the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Histology of Lviv National S.Z. Gzhytsky University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology was incorporated with the Department of Normal Anatomy that was renamed to the Department of Normal and Pathological Morphology and Forensic Veterinary Medicine.

At the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Histology, along with teaching work, since 1980 Halyna Kotsyumbas has been engaged in research work and worked on her Ph.D. thesis "Pathomorphology and some issues of pathogenesis of rabbit myxomatosis", which was defended in June 1987 (Vitebsk, Belarus). In 2005 she was enrolled for doctoral studies. In March 2008 she defended her habilitation thesis "Morphofunctional changes in the brain of rats, pigs and chickens under the experimental T-2 toxicosis and impact of sodium hypochlorite solutions", specialty 16.00.02: Pathology, Oncology, and Morphology of Animals (Bila Tserkva, Ukraine). The morphogenesis of changes and pathogenetic features of encephalopathy in animals induced by T-2 toxin, as well as the development of morphobiochemical changes in various brain structures under the impact of sodium hypochlorite solution against the background of T-2 toxicosis are revealed in her thesis.

Professor Halyna Kotsyumbas is the author and co-author of over 280 published works, 4 manuals, 4 monographs, 16 methodological recommendations, 5 patents, 1 DSTU.

Research interests: clinical and anatomical characteristics of rabbit myxomatosis, hemorrhagic diseases of rabbits, parvovirus of dogs, circoviral diseases of pigs, histostructure of individual organs and tissues of animals under the impact of ionizing radiation, morphofunctional state of the nervous system, immune system in experimental T-2 toxicosis of chickens, piglets and white rats, and the influence of sodium hypochlorite, structural and functional state of the liver, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, brain with the infusion of Borosin, Klazoverm A, antineoplastic drugs in various doses into the body of animals.

She is a supervisor and executive of the research topics of the department, supervisor of 6 postgraduate students, advisor of 2 doctoral students. She has prepared 2 Ph.Ds: Shchebentovska O.M. (2008), and Pritsak V.V. (2013). She is an instructor of the following disciplines: Animal pathological anatomy, Autopsy course, Forensic veterinary medicine. She has developed and implemented a new discipline "Technological Histology" at the Faculty of Food Technologies and Ecology.
